David Ortiz Released From Hospital, Will Continue Rehab At Home: Report

Toronto Blue Jays v Boston Red Sox

Former Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz was reportedly released from a Boston hospital after being shot while in the Dominican Republic on June 9th. He will continue his rehabilitation from his own home.

"David has been home since Friday," a family source told ESPN reporter Enrique Rojas. "At home, he will be assisted by full-time nurses and will be visited regularly by his personal doctor. He will continue to undergo all the treatment and rehabilitation necessary to recuperate from his recent injury and surgeries."

Ortiz was shot in a case of mistaken identity while he was sitting outside at a bar in Santo Domingo with a group of friends. He was rushed to a hospital in the Dominican Republic where doctors removed his gallbladder and part of his intestine. Once Ortiz was stabilized, he was flown to Boston where he underwent more surgeries.

Authorities in the Dominican Republic have arrested 14 people in the case and are still searching for others. They announced that a drug trafficker had put out a $30,000 hit on his cousin who was at the table with Ortiz. The suspected shooter was given a blurry photograph and shot Ortiz in the back by mistake.
