Brewers come up short again

The Milwaukee Brewers keep writing the same script in Philadelphia hoping the ending will change.

Instead, the ending stayed true to the plotline. Get down big early, scratch and claw their way back to within one run…only to come up short in the end.

Wednesday night, Milwaukee fell for the third consecutive time overall to the Philadelphia Phillies and extended their season-long losing skid overall to four, 5-4 the final in game three of their four game series.

Philadelphia (16-15) scored all of its runs in the first inning off of losing pitcher Freddy Peralta. In fact, each of the first five batters of the game scored for Philadelphia, who were then held to just one hit the rest of the game.

But it was Didi Gregorius’ grand slam that was the big blow.

“Guys are doing good jobs, we're just falling a little short, unfortunately,” an optimistic Brewers manager Craig Counsell told reporters via Zoom after the game. “You miss the guys that you're missing no matter what's going on. Win or lose, you're missing them. These guys are doing a good job and we're playing well.”

Milwaukee will try to salvage the remaining game Thursday afternoon in the series finale. First pitch is slated for 12:05 p.m. Brandon Woodruff (2-0, 1.8 ERA) will pitch for Milwaukee, opposed by Philadelphia’s Zack Wheeler (2-2, 3.49 ERA).
