No Moral Victory for Deion Sanders and His Colorado Buffaloes

Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes looked like they were going to get blown out by the USC Trojans on Saturday after falling behind 34-7 in the second quarter but they mounted a furious comeback and only lost by a touchdown. And while most of the country is praising the Buffaloes for continuing to fight when the chips were down, Doug Gottlieb thinks Deion has set a higher standard and isn’t ready to award the them with the “moral victory” many are claiming for them. If Deion Sanders wants credit for turning Colorado into a truly competitive program, moral victories simply will not suffice.

Doug Gottlieb: “It’s weird for Deion (Sanders), a guy who’s basically said, ‘Hey, I’m old school. I have these old school values that I teach...’ I didn’t know that old school values were: you get beat, you’re down 20 at the half, you come back, you make it, at least scoreboard-wise, within one touchdown, and you’re winning a moral victory. I understand why he’s doing it, but that does go counter to the old school philosophy...”
